Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

As the very first animated feature film of all time and the very first animated full-length Disney movie (they did only short films before this one), it seems only fitting to start the Evangeline Files with a review of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  I hope others out there love this movie as much as I always have.  Whatever your thoughts, I would love to hear from you!

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs review:

Snow White (based on a German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm) is about a 14-year old girl who has to escape the wickedness of her evil stepmother, which is super sad; the stepmother is quite beautiful all on her own but just can’t stand the thought of having another beauty around (Why do some people have to be this way!?!).  While escaping from the evil queen, Snow White meets new friends along the way, the Dwarfs, who represent different emotions/states of being (super cool!).  Though Snow White was made over 80 years ago, it is a true classic as it focuses on the timeless tale of good versus evil.  Now, I have heard people say that Snow White’s portrayal is sexist because she waits for a prince to come and save her (and moves into a house and takes care of 7 men). Well, I’ve read that the prince was supposed to have a larger role in the movie but people found him hard to animate so the idea was discarded.  As far as the Dwarfs go, yes, she cleaned their house, washed their clothes and cooked their food, but in return she received a “real” home full of genuine friendship and unconditional love; and they loved her through life and “death,” like true family and friends do.  Though this is an amazing film, it might be scary for little kids because the Evil Queen lives up to her name and is very dark.  So, while I absolutely love Snow White (and the Dwarfs too of course), I would caution the parents of little kids regarding the movie’s spooky villain.  One of the best lessons from this film is that, even though Snow White was almost killed (more than once), she still found a way to open up her heart to the Dwarfs and The Prince—and that just goes to show that love wins every time and hate loses.

“You’re never too old to be young.”

(One of the very best Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs quotes though the song it was from was deleted from the movie but sung later on a Disney special; the song was supposed to be sung by the Dwarfs.  And, FYI, Snow White is my fairy god-grandmother’s nickname for me☺.)

Snow White is also Emily’s favorite. Her room is full of Snow White memorabilia.
