The Mandalorian

So, you may or may not have noticed that in my last post I mentioned a special surprise was coming this week.  Well, as a holiday treat for my followers, I decided to post a review of one of my new favorite T.V. shows, The Mandalorian, which was the first ever scripted T.V. show to be released on the Disney+ streaming service (along with a High School Musical T.V. show).  There is no doubt that the show I’m reviewing is extremely popular; and a lot of its popularity comes from the adorable Baby Yoda (who they seriously need to make an emoji of!).  Believe it or not, I actually did not watch any of the Star Wars movies prior to The Mandalorian (hard to fathom I know), and I am now looking forward to watching some of those movies over the holidays.  I hope that everyone loves this show (and Baby Yoda) as much as I do! Whatever your thoughts I’d love to hear from you!

In this Star Wars series, that takes place 5 years after Return of the Jedi, the Mandalorian is a well-known bounty hunter who works with the Imperial Army capturing criminals.  As a total aside, my grandparents had a dog long before The Mandalorian (and long before I was born) who shared the main character’s nickname of “Mando.”  Well, when Mando is assigned to capture one particular “criminal,” it turns out to be a mysterious infant creature of some sort!  I will refer to him by his nickname, Baby Yoda (aka: the cutest creature in a T.V. show ever!).  After capturing Baby Yoda, Mando is forced to go on the run with him, determined to keep him (also called “The Child”) safe from anyone who would dare harm him.  This show has some good messages; for example, despite him being a bounty hunter who wants to be alone 24/7, Mando selflessly takes Baby Yoda in as if he is his own child.  While parenthood is most certainly not easy, Mando is determined to take care of Baby Yoda, no matter the cost.  Also, I think it just goes without saying how adorable Baby Yoda is, so adorable I just want to give him a big hug! (Well, I sort of can do that since I got a stuffed animal of him recently.)   Ok, I will stop my rant of how Baby Yoda is one of cutest, if not the cutest, Star Wars creature ever!   But, anyway, while this show is amazing, it is definitely not best for young kids; even though it’s on Disney+, it can get quite violent as many people die in the show.  And even without the violence, I think the plot would be too confusing for kids anyway.  So, I would recommend this show for teens only due to the show’s violence and complexity.  This show has changed my life in a strange sort of way, and I think I know one of the best messages that comes out of it.  Before finding Baby Yoda, Mando was very cold and distant from people due to his troubled past, he had a hard time letting anyone in, and he didn’t have any family or friends at all.  However, after The Child comes into his life, he starts to let his guard down more and he becomes a little bit vulnerable and starts to let people in (of course he’s still cautious, as anyone would be in the Star Wars universe.).  I think it just goes to show that, while we do have to be cautious when it comes to letting certain people in our lives when we are struggling through a certain something or having a hard time in general, we need to let people in, not necessarily to give advice but to be there for us and listen to us.  It’s ok to get help and letting people in is one of the first steps to getting mental help.  A lot of people that I know love Baby Yoda and find him very calming/soothing and, if you think about it, Baby Yoda seems to be on his way to becoming an ambassador of sorts for mental health (at least I think he should be!).

I’ve seen some references to this series and have been mildly curious about it. I didn’t know it was based off of Star Wars though. I’ve watched random clips scenes fron Star Wars movies but never really got into it. No one in my family really did either. I love your review of it and look forward to checking it out. I recently decided on a Disney + trial 😅

Thank you for reading and commenting! I would love to hear your thoughts after you’ve watched it! Also, That is so cool that you’re doing a Disney+ trial! It has a lot of great content on it (a mix of popular and underrated) and I usually watch a movie or episode on it pretty much everyday. Thank you for being a loyal reader!

Well written as usual and excellent background information.
I have never seen a Star Wars movie. Yoda does indeed sound special. It is important to let other people in. Mando seems to have learned that.

So, I’m actually watching this show, and I love it and I love that you have reviewed it! And I can’t get enough of Baby Yoda either! I love that you have made a connection between him and mental health. That is really profound. He does seem to bring healing to the Mandalorian, and I think you are so right when you say that sometimes people just need to be heard and not given advice; and Baby Yoda does do a whole lot of listening. Can’t wait for the next season to start (and for more Evangeline reviews too of course)!

Thank you for reading and commenting! So glad that my reviews resonate with you. I’m so glad that I’m not the only one can’t get enough of Baby Yoda! And yes, you are so right about how a lot of the time people just need to be listened to. I think Baby Yoda is actually a therapist of sorts! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! And I can’t wait for the next season to start either! I can’t believe it may not be released until next year!
